Directed by Michelangelo Antonioni, The Passenger stands as one of the director's defining masterpieces. Starring Jack Nicholson in one of his greatest performances, it follows a tired political journalist in Chad who takes on the identity of a dead man, hoping to escape his old life and find a new sense of purpose. His journey across Europe soon becomes dangerous as he attracts the attention of mysterious strangers and the BBC. Maria Schneider co-stars, and the screenplay was co-written by British film theorist Peter Wollen. The film builds to one of cinema's most unforgettable endings; an extraordinary single tracking shot that remains one of the greatest ever filmed.
